WHO is renaming the corona virus to covid-19 to avoid confusion… cos that’s not confusing at all.
As the COVID-19, formerly known as the novel corona virus spreads rapidly around China and the world amid travel lockdowns and unprecedented mass quarantines, so too are mass panic and corona virus memes. Mass confusion is also spreading now because WHO is renaming the corona virus to covid-19 to avoid confusion. I’m not kidding. You can’t make this stuff up.
Memes causing confusion?
People produce memes for many reasons, but the most common reason is light entertainment. To laugh at or poke fun at something so obvious that makes it funny is what memes are all about. For those that don’t “get” the joke when they see a corona virus meme, I highly doubt that they’ll confuse the internet meme for a public health announcement. Coronavirus memes are so prevalent because of the ludicrous relationship between the corona virus and the beer and the funny coincidence that both the virus and drinking copious amounts of corona beer can lead to health problems and death.
So has anyone confused the beer and the virus? I guess there’s always the exception, but hardly enough to justify causing more confusion by renaming a virus that has already entered the general consciousness of the internet. And as Abbott might point out to Costello, what’s confusing is WHO is the organization renaming the corona virus to covid-19.
Abbott: The organization renaming the corona virus to covid-19.
Costello: WHO is the organization renaming the corona virus to covid-19.
Abbott: That’s what I’m saying, WHO is the organization renaming the corona virus to covid-19.
Costello: why are you asking me?
Abbott: I’m not asking, I’m telling you!
To avoid confusion, here’s the original Abbott and Costello skit for anyone who doesn’t “get” the above reference.
There’s no such thing as a coincidence?
Having a name like WHO and declaring that you’re renaming a now infamous virus with a catchy name that you originally coined, to a forgettable and scientifically sounding name, in the name of avoiding confusion is a bit rich. Like the donors to WHO. Imagine the cost of changing all those coronavirus signs and posters all around the world. Like this one up above the arctic circle!
Maybe some of these donors also have stakes in certain beer companies and/or print and paper companies. Oops, perhaps just another funny coincidence?
